“Tell us a story without the book!”
As children, my brother and I both fell in love with my father’s tales, some real, some made-up, which we called “stories without the book.” In this blog, I’m telling the stories of learning that I experience every day as a high school principal in the Bronx.
I started teaching English in the New York City Public School system in 2000. In 2011, I became the founding principal of the High School of Language and Innovation, a new school that serves newcomer English Language Learners. We had our first graduating class in June 2015.
Classroom 325 is a small classroom I used to use for my office, where students and staff inspire me on a regular basis.
